The multi-disciplined newcomer Vladw lands on Animal Farm with his impressive ‘Rivers, Mountains & Rebels’ EP. Currently based in Argentina, he comes from a rich musical background informed by noise and leftfield experimental music. Vladw’s production, then, is both deep and texturally rich, while still aimed firmly towards the visceral dancefloors of Buenos Aires and beyond.

‘Dragunov’ is a tightly worked tool with perfected, spatial percussion that allows Vladw’s sonic modulations to take centrefold, washing over the unprepared in waves of devastating hypnotism. ‘Kalashnikov’ is the deeper of the two originals, with a rolling bassline typical of the finest South American style techno - spacey, yet uniquely groovy. The heady low end allows muted bleeps and semantic pads to creep into the mix, creating an unexpected moment of peak-time brilliance.

Mekas’ remix of ‘Dragunov’ is perhaps the toughest offering here, taking the studied percussion of the original and upping the tempo into something looser and more spontaneous. Atmospherically, the rework’s background details pan around the mix, creating the EP’s trippiest dancefloor weapon.
